Nashville School District adopts 2025–26 'hybrid' calendar; board votes 5-0

The Nashville School District board on a unanimous 5–0 vote adopted a proposed 2025–26 "hybrid" school calendar that delays the first student day to Aug. 4 and schedules teachers for professional development during the final seven days of July.

Superintendent Graham presented the calendar, saying it was developed with input from the PPC committee and the administrative team and intended to balance family schedules, extra-curricular events and statutory requirements. "I recommend to the board to approve the 2526 calendar as presented," he said.

Key elements include teacher PD during the last seven days of July, students’ first day Aug. 4, an October break of Oct. 13–15 (with Oct. 10 the end of the first nine weeks), Thanksgiving observed the last full week of November, and Christmas break beginning Dec. 20 and running through Jan. 2. Teachers will have a non-student work day on Jan. 5 to prepare for the second semester; the first student day of the third nine-week term is Jan. 6. Parent–teacher conference day is scheduled for Feb. 12 with winter break days Feb. 13, 16 and 17.

Graham outlined the snow-day makeup plan: the district will first use the three February break days (Feb. 13, 16, 17) and then two designated April days before considering an extension of the school day if more makeup time is needed. "So it will still keep us where we're getting out of school in May," he said.

Board members discussed calendar mechanics and the rationale for a later student start; no member proposed amendments. Speaker 1 moved to approve the Nashville School District 2025–26 calendar as presented; Speaker 3 seconded and the motion carried 5–0.

The district said it may revisit the calendar if state-level rules change during the legislative session.
