Glocester proclaims Pontagansett High School Chieftains 2024 Division 3 state champions

The Glocester Town Council adopted Resolution 2024-004 at its Dec. 19 meeting, formally congratulating the Pontagansett High School Chieftains for winning the 2024 Rhode Island Division 3 Super Bowl.
Council members read the resolution and invited the head coach, assistant coaches and players to the front. Head coach David Kato accepted the honor and described key performances from the season, naming numerous players and praising their work ethic and contributions. "I just wanna thank everybody and thank you for the opportunity of coaching this high school team and getting to know these young men..." Kato said. He highlighted individual achievements including a 42-yard playoff field goal, players with All-State and All-Division recognition, and a quarterback with over 1,900 yards and about 30 total touchdowns.
Councilors and attendees offered congratulations and urged the team to be proud of lessons learned from the season. The council arranged for a certificate and a banner to be provided to the high school and recognized the coaching staff by name.
