Sheriff's Office staff and representatives from Red Wing Lodge No. 8 told the board the lodge and Minnesota Masonic Charities donated multiple portable fire-suppression units intended for deputies who often arrive first at rural structure fires.
A lodge representative said the devices are designed to be thrown into a small room fire to suppress flames until volunteer or fire personnel arrive. The lodge and county staff said they aim to equip every squad in the fleet with the units and that distribution has occurred statewide.
The board moved to accept the donations and approved acceptance on roll call. County staff and sheriff's-office representatives thanked the lodge and other partners for the contribution and requested a photo opportunity to acknowledge the donation.
Next steps: County staff to coordinate receipt and distribution to the sheriff's squads and arrange a photo with lodge members and office leadership.
