He told the board the two-court configuration would allow the district to host more practices locally and relieve pressure on the city park courts. Mr. Graham said the work would be paid from the district’s construction or building fund.
The superintendent’s presentation flagged trade-offs: installing a concrete slab with permanent seating would remove the option to later add a third court on the same footprint, and adding lights for night play would be a substantially larger expense (Mr. Graham estimated $60,000 for lighting). Board members discussed seating capacity, future expansion, and timing to have courts ready for the upcoming season.
The motion, made and seconded during the meeting, carried on a 3-0 vote. The district plans to move forward with construction to have courts available for fall practice and competitions.
Looking ahead, Mr. Graham said the board can revisit options for additional seating, a third court at a different site, or lighting as part of future facilities planning.
