Councilors discussed the elevator and related fire‑safety access. Speaker 3 said a subset of fixes can be done in‑house but key items will require hired professionals; council members noted that some fixes should be completed immediately to demonstrate a good‑faith effort, while larger items may require an extension from the fire marshal or fire safety board.
On a motion that authorized the administrator to bring forward a plan for correction, to execute any necessary applications to the fire safety board, and to request an extension if full compliance could not be achieved by the next meeting, the council voted in favor by voice vote.
The council emphasized safety and timeliness: several speakers said the work should be comprehensive rather than piecemeal and noted that the building is used by children and older residents. The administrator and building official will report back at the next council meeting with a work plan and, if needed, an application seeking additional time to complete all mandated repairs.
