The commission opened a preliminary public hearing for the Coventry Crossing mixed‑use project and heard an applicant presentation summarizing changes since the previous approval and the team’s move toward on‑site wastewater treatment (OWTS) after sewer proved infeasible. William Landry (applicant counsel) said the proposal had been scaled down in intensity and that the team is coordinating with DEM on an OWTS design and with the State DOT on turning‑lane work.
Residents raised questions about OWTS impacts, wellhead protection and groundwater, traffic and construction routing. County water staff had submitted a recent letter expressing concerns about potential OWTS impacts to public water, and applicant engineers said they had performed soils and hydrogeologic testing and would refine the OWTS design and submit it to DEM for public review and permitting.
Because of the amount of public comment and outstanding technical issues, the commission voted to continue the Coventry Crossing public hearing to its next scheduled meeting on Oct. 23, 2024, and invited written comments by email for the record.
