Cabot updates child development center: three classrooms, training completed, plans to expand hours and age range

District staff gave the board a progress report on the Cabot School District Child Development Center, which opened in July with two classrooms (infant and toddler) and has since added a third classroom and additional enrollments.
"We opened with 2 classrooms," the presenter said, and noted that staff completed required infant and toddler professional development and safety drills (three fire drills and three tornado drills). The center began with four infants in one room and five toddlers in another, and staff reported hiring a new teacher and opening a third classroom after adding five new children.
Plans for 2025-26 include opening a 3-year-old classroom so children can progress into pre-K without a gap, extending daily hours to better match parents' work schedules, completing remaining playground/dome renovations and finishing staff training in toddler-conscious discipline. Staff said expanding to older children will require hiring additional staff and finishing the currently paused dome and playground work.
Board members asked clarifying questions about capacity and next steps; staff said they will return with any necessary staffing proposals and timeline adjustments as the program grows.
