The Cabot School District Board of Education opened its meeting with a recognition ceremony for students and staff. Special guest Miles Verte led the Pledge of Allegiance before the board introduced honorees from multiple schools.
District principals described the selection process as a school‑level nomination: schools identify students and staff who demonstrate growth, strong character and leadership through their Professional Learning Community work. A principal said the board asks schools to “find staff members and students that exemplify growth, that exemplify a wonderful heart, a great attitude” and to bring forward the “best of the best.”
Student honorees introduced at the meeting included Miles, praised by his principal for everyday service—helping in the cafeteria and supporting peers—and Samantha Ompanello, described by her teachers as quiet, persistent and someone who lifts others. “She lifts others up to her,” a presenter said of Samantha.
Staff honorees included Ashley Hancock, who moved back to her preferred subject to teach seventh‑ and eighth‑grade math and implemented MAP intervention supports, and Miss Montoya, a fifth‑grade literacy and social studies teacher praised for consistent outreach to staff and students. Board members noted this recognition marks the program’s second year in district schools and called the honorees examples of the district’s expectations for professionalism and teamwork.
The board invited families and honorees to join photos and congratulated the recipients before moving on to the rest of the agenda.
