Resident urges Olivette City Council to enforce derelict-vehicle rules

At the Dec. 10 Olivette City Council meeting a lifelong resident, Laura Ragsdale of 40 Queensbrook Place, urged the council to enforce municipal ordinances addressing derelict vehicles and outside storage. Ragsdale told the council two inoperable vehicles have been parked across from her home for more than four years, and a third appeared in recent months. She said homeowners’ association efforts and resident complaints produced no remedy.
Ragsdale read portions of the municipal code addressing discarded or derelict vehicles and open storage, noting that vehicles must be kept behind a building or locked fence if inoperable. “I have both asked our HOA and the city for help in cleaning up this situation,” she said, asking what enforcement steps remain available. She said the HOA has written letters and residents are willing to provide additional documentation.
Mayor Waldman asked Ragsdale to provide the address to the police chief for follow-up. The council did not take immediate action on the floor beyond that request; staff indicated they would pursue the location with the police department.
Ragsdale’s comment places an enforcement question on the record and asks staff to clarify how the city applies derelict-vehicle and open-storage rules.
