Liberty County commissioners on Aug. 20 approved multiple contract addendums and associated bonds for the Northwest Annex project, including a guaranteed maximum price and required bonds.
The packet presented to the court listed a previously approved construction budget of $4,700,000 and a guaranteed maximum price of $5,277,700.11; the court approved addenda that also fixed a 365-calendar-day maximum construction time and wage-rate requirements. County staff confirmed that rain-date considerations are included in the contract language. The court then acknowledged and accepted payment and performance bonds in the amount of $4,677,711 from White Construction Company.
After those approvals, the court considered a request to authorize Mike Construction (Black Construction was present) to proceed with notice to commence construction; contractor Jim Schneider said subcontracting and material procurement were under way and the contractor was "ready to go." The court approved the notice to proceed and discussed an anticipated October start date.
Commissioners voted by voice on the motions; the public transcript records the approvals without a roll-call tally.
