Liberty County hears informational briefing on proposed 48‑inch Blackfin natural gas pipeline

Liberty County Commissioners Court on Sept. 10 received an informational briefing from representatives of Blackfin about a proposed 48‑inch natural gas pipeline that would run roughly 53 miles and cross roads in multiple precincts of the county.

Martin, a Blackfin representative, told the court the route begins in Colorado County, passes near Conroe and Montgomery County and would include three road crossings in Precinct 2 and three in Precinct 3 inside Liberty County. He said the project includes above‑ground mainline valves and automatic shutoff equipment required by federal regulations and that routing and easement work remains ongoing. "We've been routing through the county since the middle of last year," Martin said, and provided maps and a packet for county review.

County staff asked for time to review the materials. Judge Juan Sandoval said he would examine the packet and follow up with the company. The court formally recorded the item as information only and voted to take no action at the meeting.

Why it matters: A large transmission pipeline crossing county roads can affect road use, right‑of‑way easements, emergency response planning and oversight responsibilities for crossings and valve locations. County staff will review routing, certified materials and permits and report back to the commissioners before any formal approvals are requested.

Next steps: The county judge and staff will review Blackfin's packet and follow up with the company; the court recorded a motion of "no action" at this meeting, meaning no permit or agreement was approved Sept. 10.
