Maverick County commissioners approved a series of indigent-defense items on Tuesday, including the county's annual formula-resolution submission to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission and acceptance of a four-year improvement grant to fund an indigent-defense coordinator.
Mister Ruiz told the court the formula grant allocation was standard and reported the figure on the record as "10,000 a hundred and 51 with 31¢" as presented in the backup. For the improvement grant, staff said the award is $68,000 with a first-year cash match requirement of $17,000 and a staged match schedule (20%/40%/60%/80%) over the four years. "This one's actually a 4 year program... The first year requires a match of, 17,000," Mister Grace said when describing the coordinator program.
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the resolution, accept the improvement grant and open a dedicated bank account for the grant as auditors requested. Staff said the bank account would be set up with a clear account name referencing the TDIC indigent-defense coordinator program to ensure proper tracking of funds.
The court also approved related SB 22 budget recognitions and salary corrections for county attorney employees in the record. Staff noted allocations and auditor review were completed before motions passed.
