Council tables Southport Infrastructure Master Plan to Jan. 16 workshop after mayor's apology

The Hardeeville City Council on Dec. 12 voted to table the second reading of the Southport Infrastructure Master Plan (reference 2024-9-18a) to the Jan. 16, 2025 meeting and to schedule a public workshop before that meeting so the public can review staff responses to council questions.
Mayor Harry Williams opened the segment with a prepared apology for past behavior during earlier meetings related to the Southpointe development; he said he would relinquish the gavel to Mayor Pro Tem White and listen to council deliberations. After staff described extensive follow-up from executive session and recommended a workshop to present detailed responses for public review, a councilmember moved and the council voted by voice to table the ordinance to Jan. 16 with a workshop to be scheduled beforehand.
Council emphasized the need for additional public input and more complete answers to outstanding questions before taking final action on the ordinance. Staff said they would work with the mayor and council to develop the workshop materials and return the item to the January meeting for final consideration.
