Oak Grove’s Board of Alderwomen voted June 17 to approve an amended liquor policy allowing alcohol sales at the annual Lick Skillet Days festival, scheduled for Sept. 27–28, 2024.
Ruth Anne, identified in the meeting as president of the Oak Grove Chamber of Commerce, asked the board to permit alcohol sales within a defined footprint "from Thirteenth Street north on Broadway to Eleventh Street," excluding the children’s zone. She said the Chamber will partner with the American Legion for beer sales and a vendor called Embrace the Grape for wine and mixed drinks, require ID checks and issue dated wristbands. Alcohol will be served in event-specific containers the chief and officers can identify, and vendors will ask patrons to empty cups before leaving the footprint. The Chamber requested sales begin at 3 p.m. and run until the festival end at 10 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday; last year sales stopped an hour earlier.
The Police Chief told the board he had "no" concerns and described last year as "a very positive event" with no significant incidents, supporting the extension of sales to the festival’s 10 p.m. end time. A board member moved to approve the amended liquor policy and the board passed the motion by voice vote; the meeting record does not include a roll-call tally.
The approved policy sets event boundaries, vendor ID/wristband procedures and container rules; the Chamber and vendors will coordinate signage and social-media messaging to show the footprint and rules to attendees.
