Oak Grove approves monthly Food Truck Nights in City Hall parking lot

The Oak Grove Board of Alderwomen voted July 1 to approve monthly Food Truck Nights in the City Hall parking lot, to be held the third Wednesday of each month from July 17 through Oct. 16, 2024.
Mayor Dana Webb introduced the request from Anita and Chad Tilton, the owners of Just Chillin' Sweets and Treats. City staff provided background on prior food truck events, noting Kansas City Food Truck Association first used the lot in February 2021 and that other local organizers had managed the nights in subsequent years. "We took it upon ourselves to say, hey. Let's do this," one of the applicants said, describing a plan to run a family-oriented, destination event.
The applicants said the events will feature a small, core group of four or five trucks (with fill-ins as needed), local vendors known in the area and additional programming such as music, yard games and shade tents. They said they will require each truck to keep licenses current, provide trash receptacles and return the site to its prior condition at the end of the night. City staff confirmed they would share applicants' event posts on the Oak Grove Facebook page to help promotion.
An alderwoman moved to approve the requested schedule and conditions; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. The board did not record individual tallies. The approved motion directs the applicants to coordinate final layout and traffic control with city staff prior to the first event on July 17.
The action follows prior temporary uses of the parking lot and aims to provide a regular community event that draws residents and visitors to Oak Grove.
