The Oak Grove Board of Alderwomen voted Sept. 3 to approve applying for the 2025 Local Violent Crime Prevention Grant so the police department can replace aging public-safety computers and meet federal reporting standards.
The request came from the police chief, who told the board, "What I'm requesting this evening is permission to apply for the 2025 local violent crime prevention grant." He said the grant would cover "hardware and software of a computer, basis for crime data reporting and compliance with NIBRS and our CJIS requirement." The chief said the department needs to replace 10 machines and expected to seek up to $12,000 to offset that cost while noting the program can provide up to $25,000.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the amount; the chief said final pricing from the vendor (Lenovo) was pending and that accessories could raise the per-unit cost. A motion to approve applying for the grant was made, seconded and passed on a voice vote.
Next steps: staff will proceed with preparing and submitting the application. The board did not record a roll-call tally for the voice vote.
