Oak Grove approves purchase of new excavator for Public Works; trade-in and warranty noted

The Board of Alderwomen approved purchase of a replacement excavator for the Public Works Department Dec. 16.
Corey explained the city's 2007 Takeuchi mini excavator is due for replacement and that the purchase was included in the 2025 budget. After vendor demos, staff favored a Caterpillar unit from Foley Equipment because Foley offered an extended warranty promotion (bringing a typical two-year warranty to seven years if ordered before year-end) and local service presence. "They're offering an additional 5 year warranty...bring in the warranty to a full 7 years," Corey said. He reported Foley offered a trade-in value of $24,500 for the old unit; other vendors quoted lower trade-in values.
Corey said ordering this year would not require payment until the 2025 budget year and earlier in-meeting remarks referenced a $62,523 figure when discussing ordering and payment timing. At the motion, a board member moved to approve purchase from Foley with the trade-in for a total purchase price stated in the motion as $86,753; the motion passed on a voice vote.
Staff said Foley has three Missouri service centers (nearest in Kansas City) and emphasized parts and service availability as a reason to select that vendor. The item will proceed per purchasing and budget procedures.
