Oak Grove authorizes search for replacement parks dump truck after Aug. 14 theft

Oak Grove alderwomen on Oct. 21 authorized city staff to search for and purchase a used replacement for the parks department’s stolen dump truck within the insurance settlement amount of $27,719.80.
Scott, speaking for the parks department, told the board the department’s dump truck was stolen on Aug. 14 and that the insurance settlement totaled $27,719.80. He said the truck is the department’s only dump truck and is also used to mount a large plow for snow and other work, and staff will seek a vehicle that most closely matches the prior equipment.
Board members asked whether different truck frames or hookups would require special equipment and whether trucks with higher mileage or different years would be acceptable. Scott said the stolen vehicle was a 2005 model with about 65,000 miles and that that model year is increasingly rare in the market—some have been stolen or are no longer offered for sale. He said staff would favor a vehicle already equipped with a plow but could negotiate if a slightly more expensive but suitable truck is found; if no acceptable vehicle is available staff will return to the board for direction.
A motion to authorize staff to locate and, if within the insurance settlement amount, purchase a replacement used four-by-four truck was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
