Maplewood council approves several appointments and ordinances; rezoning and budget amendments move forward

Maplewood — The Maplewood City Council on Dec. 10 approved a slate of routine and policy items, including commission appointments, land‑use rezonings and an emergency budget amendment needed to close the city's audit.
Appointments and resolutions The council approved Resolution 24-63 appointing Mary Killian to the Human Services Commission (term to 06/30/2026), Resolution 24-64 appointing Janine Dallas to the Human Services Commission (term to 06/30/2027), Resolution 24-65 appointing Adam Valenteck to the Human Services Commission (term to 06/30/2028), and Resolution 24-66 appointing Paul McFarland to the Sustainability Commission (term to 06/30/2028). Each appointment passed by roll-call vote.
Rezoning and land‑use votes Council considered several zoning items. Bill 6265 to rezone 2555 Oakland Avenue from Public Activity (PA) to Single Family Residential (SR) was discussed and passed first and second readings and was scheduled for a third and final reading at the next meeting. Council also approved Bill 6263 to rezone the northern portion of 7443 Hazel Avenue from Single Family to Community Business after discussion about adjacent parking and buffering; council noted permitting and enforcement will control permanent uses.
Other ordinances and motions Council approved first and second readings (with third reading scheduled for the next meeting) of an ordinance authorizing the city manager to execute a 10‑year interoperable radio system user agreement with St. Louis County; staff said the agreement would allow shared emergency radio operations and carry no direct cost to Maplewood. An emergency ordinance (Bill 6267) amending multiple fund budgets (capital improvement, sewer lateral, firehouse bond, Hanley Road special allocation, Cambridge Common special allocation) was read three times and approved so the city can close its FY2023–24 audit and submit required state reporting. Council also approved an ordinance effecting a boundary adjustment with Webster Groves to transfer property and maintenance responsibilities for a park area to Webster Groves.
Council adjourned the meeting after administrivia and public comment; the interoperability, rezoning, and emergency-budget items will return for final readings as noted.
