Van Buren County's Quorum Court voted to authorize sale of the vacated deputy prosecutor's office at 193 Port Street, Clinton, to the City of Clinton for the appraised value of $44,000.
Sponsor Nikki Brown told the court the old office building is vacant and that the city had obtained a professional appraisal. "The property shall be sold as is," Nikki Brown said while reading the ordinance; the text also directs the county judge to remove the property from the county's fixed capital asset listing upon closing.
Members asked about location and condition; the presiding official and others noted the building still contains a vault and that prior estimates found renovation would be costly, so purchasing a different property for county offices proved more economical. After a brief discussion the court adopted the ordinance by roll call vote and separately approved its emergency clause to make the sale effective upon passage and publication.
The ordinance requires the county judge to complete actions at closing and to remove the asset from county records.
