The Linn County board on Monday approved a vacancy form to elevate one existing chemist position in the public health laboratory to a senior environmental chemist and, in routine business, unanimously approved accounts payable and the consent agenda.
Pramod Dvivedi, identified in the record as Health Director, Linn County Public Health, told the board the move would upgrade one of two full-time chemist positions to a senior level. "This is a senior level position," Dvivedi said, and the department has the budgeted funds to cover the increase. He said the salary difference between the current and upgraded position is $1,800.
Wanda, identified in the record as an air quality branch supervisor and laboratory supervisor, described the responsibilities attached to the senior role: "The senior position is going to be responsible for the quality assurance and quality control of the laboratory as well as maintaining our current certifications for the clinical environmental sides of the lab." She said the prior senior environmental chemist retired in December and that the upgraded position would replace that set of responsibilities.
Board members confirmed the elevation will not be backfilled and that the unit’s headcount will shift from three employees to two as a result of the retirement and reclassification. After brief discussion about staffing and HR signoffs, an unnamed board member moved to approve the vacancy form request "for a senior environmental chemist for the public health department." The motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
On separate routine motions the board approved minutes from the March 17 meeting, and a claims motion that listed accounts payable checks and ACH payments. The claims were presented on the record as $99,624.62 in checks and $1,481,459.84 in ACH payments, for a total of $1,581,084.46; the board approved that motion unanimously. The consent agenda was also approved without discussion.
With no legislative updates reported, the chair adjourned the meeting.
