Senate ag committee approves Department of Agriculture cleanup bill, corrects Red River reference

Senator Ricky Hill presented a Department of Agriculture cleanup bill that would eliminate three advisory bodies that have not met since 2015—the litter utilization committee, the wetlands technical advisory committee and the fire ant advisory board—and correct an erroneous reference to the Red River Compact Commission in prior law.
Secretary Wes Ward explained the error stemmed from a drafting mistake in the 2019 Transformation Efficiencies Act: the statute referred to the Red River Compact Commission instead of the Red River Commission. Ward said the compact itself is a federal entity with a federally appointed administrator and the bill corrects the statutory reference.
Committee members had no signups in opposition. Senator Hill moved the bill, a second was recorded, and the committee approved a do‑pass recommendation by voice vote.
The committee instructed staff to proceed with the normal legislative process; the transcript records the committee—s approval and then adjournment.
