Senator (Centerville) presented House Bill 1210 as amended and said the amendment "scrapes everything that was in the bill originally and replaces it with all new language." The amendment combines horticulture and nurserymen representation into a single board seat, increases farmer representation by adding another farmer member (one specified to be a soybean farmer) and provides that the industry will submit at least two names to the governor for consideration; the governor selects the nominee who is then subject to Senate confirmation.
Committee members noted the amendment had broad sponsorship across the Ag committee. No members of the public spoke in opposition. Senator Sample moved to pass HB 1210 as amended, Senator Gilmore seconded, and the committee approved the amended bill by voice vote.
