The committee passed Senate Bill 3013, which reassigns the Great River Road division and its director position into the tourism division of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism.
Senator Missy Irvin (District 18) said the bill effects a structural realignment only; she told the committee the director will continue to support the Mississippi River Parkway Commission and that no changes to the commission are intended.
Agency testimony described parks in the Mississippi River corridor — including Mississippi River State Park and the Delta Heritage Trail — that would be administratively included in the Great River Road division under the proposed structure. Senator Irvin and agency witnesses framed the change as administrative and intended to streamline oversight.
The committee moved to pass SB 3013 and approved it by voice vote.
