The Senate Agriculture, Forestry & Economic Development Committee approved House Bill 1559, an agreed-upon measure addressing assessments of mineral rights for property-tax purposes.
Sponsor Senator Pitch told the committee the bill had been negotiated and agreed to by stakeholders and would require submission of a division order or declaration of interest to the county in order to assess mineral rights. He specifically noted the bill's filing requirement "as required by April 15" in the bill text.
A committee member asked whether the bill changes ownership of mineral rights; Pitch said it does not change ownership and offered to bring experts if the committee wanted more detailed clarification. After a brief question period, the sponsor closed and the committee moved and seconded a "do pass" motion. The chair called the vote; ayes were recorded and no opposition was noted, and the motion carried.
The bill was reported out of committee and will proceed to the next legislative stage.
