"It just makes it equitable," said a Little Rock fire department speaker describing their 56‑hour workweek.
Committee members questioned whether the change might disincentivize hiring reservists or service members; witnesses and the sponsor said the change would more likely aid recruitment of military veterans into fire and police service. The committee then approved HB 17 03 by voice vote.
The measure will proceed from committee with a favorable recommendation.
