Sen. Jane English, who represents District 34, told the committee Senate Bill 339 would allow restaurants in wet counties to deliver limited alcoholic beverages with food orders. "What this bill is is it would allow restaurants when they're delivering food in a wet county to be able to deliver also adult beverages to the customers," she said, describing limits of a 16‑pack, one bottle of wine or a 32‑ounce mixed drink.
The bill, as presented, applies only in counties that are already wet; Sen. English said deliveries to dry counties would not be permitted. Committee members asked clarifying questions about the geographic limitation and the requirement that deliveries be made by restaurant employees.
There were no public commenters offering opposition or support. Following brief discussion the committee moved and seconded a motion to pass SB 339; the chair announced the committee vote in favor and advanced the bill out of committee.
The committee record does not include a roll‑call tally in the transcript; the motion was recorded, seconded and approved by voice vote. The committee also did not record implementing language beyond the packaging/quantity limits described in the presentation.
What happens next: SB 339 was recommended to pass out of committee and will proceed through the Senate process. The transcript does not specify a calendar date for further consideration.
