Senate committee advances cleanup bill to strip obsolete licensing language

Senator Irvin presented the bill, calling it "a true cleanup bill" that imposes no financial or operational impact on regulated entities. He said the board in question was created in February 2003 and that post-transformation the Department of Labor and Licensing assumed responsibilities that previously belonged to the Secretary of State, making portions of the statute redundant.
Senator Elliott asked whether home-inspection oversight would be affected if the language were removed. Department staff replied that the home inspection licensing board remains under the Department of Labor and Licensing and that the substitution of departmental language merely removed redundancy created during an earlier statutory transformation.
Senator Irvin moved to pass SB 185; after a second by Senator Ingram the committee approved the bill by voice vote. The chair said the bill will be transmitted to the Senate floor.
