Committee passes bill requiring resident representation on continuing-care boards

Senators on the Insurance & Commerce Committee approved Senate Bill 615, which adds language requiring that the board of a continuing-care residential community include at least one resident of that community.
Sponsor Senator Lehi said the change is modest and consistent with other states; he noted Butterfield Trail Village in northwest Arkansas is the only such community currently in the state and that residents already serve on the board there. Committee members asked whether nomination or voting procedures would change; Lehi said selection remains the board's process and that practice at Butterfield includes resident board members.
The committee passed SB 615 on voice vote with no registered opposition.
