Committee allows health services subcommittee to forward mental and behavioral health study to ALC
Summary
The committee authorized the Health Services Subcommittee to adopt and forward a study report on mental and behavioral health to the Arkansas Legislative Council by Dec. 1 as required by Act 802 of 2021; the request was approved without objection.
Representative Lademan told the committee that a working group, including DHS staff, mental health providers, public education personnel and family members, met multiple times during the interim and compiled recommendations to improve care for people with mental and behavioral health issues. She asked the Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee to allow the Health Services Subcommittee to submit the compiled report to the Arkansas Legislative Council (ALC) by Dec. 1 pursuant to Act 802 of 2021.
Representative Lademan said some recommendations require only administrative changes while others will require legislation to be introduced in January. The committee approved the request "without objection," permitting the subcommittee to submit the report to the ALC by the deadline.
