Committee moves nurse-staffing bill to interim study after adopting amendment

Senator Dave Wallace presented Senate Bill 611 to study nurse staffing levels in hospitals and nursing homes. He said the measure would convene hospitals, nursing associations, nursing-home providers, insurers and AARP representatives to assess whether staffing is adequate and to recommend changes.
The committee suspended rules to take the bill from the deferred list, adopted an amendment and voted to move the bill to interim study status. Wallace said the study will solicit input from hospitals, the nursing association, nursing homes, insurer representatives and AARP. The committee approved the interim-study referral by voice vote.
