Representative Justin Boyd presented two companion measures (HB11‑34 and HB11‑35) to expand pharmacists' authority to administer vaccines and to allow trained pharmacy technicians to administer immunizations under pharmacist supervision.
HB11‑34 would permit pharmacists to administer vaccines per protocol to patients 7 years and older and to prescribe certain vaccines to patients 3 years and older (with additional requirements for children ages 3–6, such as participation in the Vaccines for Children program and a recommendation to seek a well‑child visit). Representative Boyd said he worked with pediatric stakeholders on language and noted training and patient‑safety safeguards.
HB11‑35 would allow a pharmacy technician who completes an approved training program and skills confirmation to administer vaccines under a supervising pharmacist; the sponsor said the program includes an online component and a documented skills check by a qualified professional.
Committee members had few questions and the bills were moved and passed in committee. The transcript records the measures passed by voice vote; numeric roll call tallies are not included in the excerpt.
