DHS updates manuals to reflect removal of prior-authorizations for MAT drugs

Mark White of the Department of Human Services briefed the committee on rule changes related to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. White said a session law removed prior-authorization requirements for MAT and DHS updated program manuals and guidance accordingly. “We went ahead and implemented that in our system, so we're in compliance with that,” White said.
White said the changes mostly reflect administrative cleanup in manuals and emphasize that providers must follow federal guidelines for MAT medication use. He noted minor wording changes were coordinated with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and that CMS approved the language.
