The committee adopted a sponsor amendment and passed SB172, which makes two principal changes to state social work licensing rules.
Senator Ledding, who presented the bill, said the measure will clarify that social work students cannot represent themselves as fully licensed social workers after an incident in which a student allegedly billed as a licensed practitioner. The amendment tightens the language to prevent students from misrepresenting licensure status.
The bill also modifies reciprocity rules to allow the Social Work Licensing Board to consider prior experience from other states when evaluating applicants. Ledding said current law prevented the board from factoring in many years of out-of-state practice; the change lets the board weigh that experience in its decisions.
There was no public opposition at the hearing and the committee passed the bill as amended by voice vote.
