Senate Bill 203, introduced by Senator Teague, would allow state park admission processes located within municipal boundaries to collect the city advertising and promotion (A&P) tax at parks that are inside city limits.
Senator Teague told the committee the parks and hospitality industry do not oppose the change. "It just allows the state park to collect the A&P tax at the state park is within the city limits," Teague said. Senator Malek asked whether the measure is special local legislation; Teague answered no, saying the provision applies to any park located in city limits.
The bill moved quickly through the committee: a do‑pass motion was made and seconded and the committee approved SB 203 by voice vote. Shortly after the first passage, the committee expunged that vote to add a house cosponsor (Representative Gonzalez) by amendment and re‑passed the bill as amended.
What happens next: SB 203 will advance to the Senate floor with the committee amendment adding a house cosponsor. The transcript records voice votes; no roll‑call tallies were provided.
