Committee advances bill to separate county apportionment money when passed to cities

Representative Fite told the committee House Bill 12‑27 would change how counties remit funds to municipalities by separating the portion intended for city general revenue from the street fund so those dollars start in the correct account when deposited.
"It is a problem," Representative Fite said, citing audit findings and turnover in small city clerk positions that sometimes led to commingling. He said audit and the Association of Counties reviewed the bill and expressed no objection.
Committee members asked whether the bill was part of a legislative package; Representative Fite said it was not. After clarifying questions, the committee moved the bill and passed it by voice vote.
