An independent audit presented to the Bluffton Town Council showed the town’s financial statements for fiscal year 2024 earned an unmodified—commonly called "clean"—opinion.
Trey Scott of Malden & Jenkins told council the audit found no Yellow Book or single‑audit findings, and that town management’s financial disclosures presented fairly the town’s position as of June 30, 2024. Key figures noted in the presentation included a net position of about $96 million and a government‑wide surplus (revenues exceeding expenses) of roughly $17.6 million for the fiscal year. The general fund held about 8½ months of expenditures in fund balance, a level the auditor described as well above common minimum guidelines.
The auditor also highlighted healthy liquidity—current assets could cover current liabilities nearly three times—and continuing capital reinvestment over recent years, both signs the town has been investing in infrastructure rather than allowing assets to degrade. Council members praised the finance department and acknowledged the Government Finance Officers Association certifications maintained by staff.
The auditor said new standards are forthcoming but are not expected to materially affect the town’s reporting; staff and auditors confirmed no disagreements or uncorrected misstatements were identified during the course of the audit.
The council received the report and congratulated the town finance team for the clean audit.
