Merriam City Council handled routine business and recognitions in a single block of items.
The council approved the consent agenda (two items) by a single motion moved by Mr. Silvers and seconded by Ms. Hanns; the clerk recorded the vote as 'Motion passes 7 0.'
Council confirmed multiple reappointments across boards and commissions, including Cole Stevens to the Planning Commission (term to 12/31/2027), reappointments to the Board of Zoning Appeals and Board of Structures Appeals, and multiple reappointments to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. Doug Murphy was introduced and confirmed to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2025; Murphy told the council his family has lived in Merriam for 25 years and said he was "thrilled to have the opportunity to give something back."
Mayor Pape invited Bob and Teresa Germender to publicly thank Overland Park Fire Department and Johnson County MEDACT personnel after Teresa suffered a cardiac arrest; the mayor and those present applauded the response and called forward the crew members for recognition and a photo opportunity. "The team did a great job. Very thankful that they... were so quick in a response," Bob Germender said, and Teresa described not remembering most of the event but thanked responders for saving her life.
Those consent and appointment motions were recorded as approved by unanimous votes where taken.
