Library fundraising, staff retirement and Main Street events highlighted at Ottawa commission

City commissioners on Aug. 28 heard a round of community updates from the Ottawa Library and Ottawa Main Street.
Gary Chartier, Ottawa Library executive director, said a "walking tacos" fundraiser organized by the library's teen council raised $200 for team programming and that the Friends of the Ottawa Library Skunk Run book sale brought in $1,449.31 and sold about three-quarters of inventory. Chartier announced the retirement of Pam Miller, a technical services coordinator and cataloger who worked more than 33 years for the library; Chartier said Cindy Brewer will take over those responsibilities.
An Ottawa Main Street representative (identified in discussion as Sarah) described work on the city's common consumption area and said membership revenue rose after a dues increase. She announced a Sept. 7 downtown event — Brews, Beats and Boutiques — with live music and vendors and said participating liquor-license holders will receive 1,000 cups and 1,000 stickers for the event as part of regulation compliance.
Commissioners thanked staff and volunteers and had no follow-up actions recorded at the meeting.
