The Ottawa City Commission approved annual renewals for cereal malt beverage (CMB) licenses for 2025, following staff review and recommendation. Staff explained CMB covers beer with not more than 6% alcohol by volume under Kansas Statutes 41-2701 and described the two license categories (on-premise consumption and not-for-consumption on premise).
Staff said all applications before the commission were renewals — no new applicants this year — and that the police department and city attorney had reviewed the applications with no grounds for denial. Staff also said the city performs Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) background checks at no charge for applicants and that the approved applications and fees are reported to the Kansas Department of Revenue.
A commissioner moved to approve item 11d; the motion was seconded and the commission voted by roll call to approve the renewals. Staff noted license fees of $225 per year for general retailers ($25 of which goes to the Kansas Department of Commerce) and $75 per year for limited retailers (with a $25 stamp fee to the Department of Commerce). The commission authorized the renewals so licenses can continue without lapse after Dec. 31.
