Waite Park approves appointments, police hires and mechanic candidate

Waite Park — The Waite Park City Council on Dec. 16 approved a slate of appointments and personnel actions, including hiring recommendations and an adjusted term for an external representative.
During the consent agenda the council approved appointment of Christopher Thole and Nicholas Coop as police officers. Later in the meeting council adjusted the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC) representative term so that Rick Miller will serve until June 30, 2025; council members said the MTC seat need not be held by the mayor and that terms do not always align with council-year cycles.
City staff also presented a hiring recommendation for a mechanic. The civil service board and staff interviewed six applicants; two candidates were certified. Staff recommended Ruben Lewellen as the top candidate with a proposed starting pay grade and an initial one-week (40-hour) vacation loading request; council approved the hire unanimously.
The council approved the full slate of other appointments on the agenda and moved to adjourn after brief department remarks and public thanks to outgoing members.
