Ron Beatty reviewed the negotiated donation agreement and said the updated version gives the city time to conduct due diligence. "We have until December 20... to look at title, do any kind of environmental review, whatever we wanna do to make sure that we're not buying into a problem," Beatty said, and noted that if the review uncovers issues the city can back out of the deal. Beatty also observed that the donors had previously pursued a title‑company settlement and may be motivated by tax considerations.
Councilors instructed staff to proceed with title, environmental and other due diligence before final acceptance; no final transfer or conveyance occurred at the work session. Staff noted the parcel includes a pond and that maintenance responsibilities and potential long‑term upkeep would need to be clarified if the city accepts ownership.
