In the formal proclamation the mayor said, "I, Todd Winters, mayor of the city of Gardner, Kansas, do hereby proclaim 11/04/2024 as Gardner Gold Special Olympics Day in the city of Gardner, Kansas, and urge all residents to offer continuing support the special language program in our community." Three athletes present — Jada Weniu, Noah Van Luthney and Blake McTorrance — introduced themselves for the record.
Council members and staff praised the program’s expansion, noting it began in 2003 with four athletes and has grown to nearly 60, supported by volunteers and community donors. Council members encouraged residents to volunteer and donate to sustain the program.
