MassDOT District 5 planner Barbara Lachance updated the MPO on project statuses across the region, noting bid openings and design submittal schedules. Among the items: the Route 28 (Bass River) bridge replacement was advertised with bids rescheduled to open Jan. 14, 2025; other projects (Oak Street over Route 6, Route 3 sign replacement, Chatham area work and Route 28 phases) are at various 25–75% design milestones and awaiting subsequent submittals or review.
Deb Shores of the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority said the RTA will transition in January to a new GoCard system to replace MBTA Charlie cards; the GoCard supports smartphone integration, in-app balance management, real-time bus ETAs, faster tap boarding, flexible fares for students and others, and continued fare-free access for seniors and people with disabilities; physical cards will be available at the Hyannis Transportation Center and from drivers.
Steven Topper of the Cape Cod Commission said materials from the recent Cape Cod Bridges open house are posted at mass.gov/capebridges, highlighted the christening of the MV Barnstable (a Steamship Authority vessel funded through TIP work), and previewed a regional planimetric flyover planned for 2025 to update mapping and baseline data for regional planning. He also reminded members to complete a required statewide ethics/conflict-of-interest training by month-end.
