Public commenters press for on-the-record answers about Cape Cod Canal bridges, note FHWA absence at open house

Two public commenters raised concerns about the Cape Cod Canal bridges outreach. Steve Buckley said the open-house format did not create a record of how public questions were answered and that he has been given the 'runaround' when seeking technical responses from MassDOT and the Federal Highway Administration; he asked that MassDOT project manager Brian Cordero and a FHWA point of contact appear to answer questions on the record before the draft environmental impact statement is released.
John York praised the open-house format for one-on-one interaction but said the Federal Highway Administration was not represented at the event despite its role as the lead federal agency for the environmental review. He asked to make public comment during the Vision Zero item if the MPO accepts public input on that agenda item.
Commission staff later noted that materials from the bridge open house are posted online at mass.gov/capebridges and said they would continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
