Cape Cod MPO adopts draft slate of projects for 2024 Unified Planning Work Program

The Cape Cod MPO on March 27 voted to accept a staff-recommended slate of projects to be included in the draft 2024 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).
Dave Nolan of the Cape Cod Commission walked members through the UPWP development timeline and the recommended projects: ongoing management and certification tasks; data collection (traffic counts and an unpaved public‑road inventory); a Chatham Main Street parking and circulation study; interchange safety analyses and a regional safety action plan (funded by a recently awarded grant); a sidewalk connectivity inventory focused on bus stops and multifamily housing; guidance on municipal EV-charging needs; technical assistance and GIS support; and transit-support studies including Transportation Management Association research and RTA fleet electrification support.
Tom Andrade moved to accept the slate and Harold Mitchell seconded. The MPO approved the slate by roll call; staff will prepare the draft UPWP for presentation at next month’s meeting and noted planning work under the UPWP would begin in October.
Members emphasized the UPWP’s role in documenting ongoing canal-bridges coordination and in providing towns technical assistance and safety planning support.
