Commissioners discussed whether and how to compensate part-time county employees who work on officially observed holidays (senior center, meal delivery, parks and golf course staff are common examples). Unidentified Speaker 5 proposed offering an incentive — time-and-a-half or double time — for part-time employees called in on holidays. "If you have an employee that's making $15 an hour, it's $7.50 per hour additional," one speaker noted while discussing cost implications.
Speaker 2 moved that regular part-time employees who work on a holiday receive enhanced pay; Speaker 3 seconded. Commissioners agreed to make the change effective immediately.
Staff will update payroll procedures and applicable personnel policy language to reflect the change and return any necessary documentation to the court.
