Scurry County officials discuss hauling, grinding of road millings for trail and urgent repairs

Scurry County officials told the commissioners court they have about "60 loads right now" of asphalt millings and estimate they need "about 80 loads" to complete materials for a bike trail and related road repairs. Officials discussed scheduling a mobile grinder that could arrive "today or in two weeks" and said the county held off scheduling to accumulate enough material to process when the grinder is available.

The court discussed timing constraints for working in winter, noting it typically will not be "really warm till after March," and said preliminary work could be done now with finishing or reshaping to follow in summer. Speaker 1 said staff expect the grinder to be in Havana and that the county postponed until the contractor could process material when sufficient loads are staged.

Officials also reported discovering a new washout under traffic control near a solar plant where culverts and a creek were "uncovered" and not visible until staff inspected the site. Speaker 1 said crews are addressing the erosion and that "we've got lots of concrete out there" available for coverage.

Court members flagged vegetation along edges as a concern for the finished millings. Speaker 1 recommended herbicide and other finishing steps to help the material "come together" for intended bicycle use. No formal vote or contract award was recorded during the discussion; court members described this as scheduling and operational planning.

Next steps discussed included staging additional loads, preparing the city's machine for hauling, and coordinating exact arrival and processing dates with the grinder operator.
