Council awards geotechnical contract for 2025 stream utility project

City Engineer Chris, speaking by phone, told the council the 2024 stream utility improvement project is underway but has been limited this season by rain. He briefed the council on the next planned project (labeled the 02/2025 stream utility improvement) and said staff solicited geotechnical proposals from Chosen Valley Testing, AET and Braun Intertek.
Chris said Chosen Valley Testing submitted the low bid, a lump-sum fee of $5,000 to perform six borings and provide a pavement-section recommendation. "Chosen Valley was also the provider on the 02/2024 project, and we've had pretty good success with their work so far," he said.
The City recommended awarding the geotechnical work to Chosen Valley Testing. The council moved to approve the award and voted in favor; the chair announced the motion carried. The contract award will allow geotechnical borings and pavement recommendations to proceed in advance of next year's construction.
The engineer also reported the contractor is still working on Bridal Avenue North and that rain has slowed progress this year. No distinct project-contingency amounts or contract-duration dates were stated during the presentation.
The council did not request further delay; staff said they will continue to monitor progress and bring any substantive changes back to the council.
