Several commissioners said that, given limited right-of-way and cost, the realistic short-term opportunity is the parcel tied to the developer’s preliminary plat on the western half of segment 4.
Commission direction and next steps included: confirm Hennepin County schedule for the segments tied to county road work; ask the developer about easements or construction for the western half of segment 4; and pursue reimbursement through the regional agency (for example, 3 Rivers Park District) if the path becomes part of a regional trail.
The commission did not take a formal roll-call vote on funding but reached consensus to make segment 4 its top near-term trail priority. Staff said they will follow up with county staff and the developer and return with updates to the commission.
